A rare and impressive ENAMELLED dessert service by E J D BODLEY. This service is RELIEF MOULDED depicting birds, some flying aound branches whilst others are perched on leafy branches in gilt dentil rim. The scene reminds one of early springtime where birds are frolicking in the warm weather. Circa1880, this service comprises of the four low comports and two high stands on rustic foot, and 18 plates.
Each 23cm diam, impressed mark and lozenge shaped podr mark for 29 january 1879, pattern 4/9961 , In total 24 Pieces.
Condition: In excellent condition for age. No Restoratrion.
Edwin J.D. Bodley took over the china division of Samuel Alcock's Hill Pottery at Burslem with his associate Mr. Diggory in 1870, but by 1876 Bodley was running the factory on his own. It continued to produce quality porcelain until 1892.
