A very good chinese blue and white planter 19th century or from Qing dynasty period. Symbolic and bold Chinese porcelain planter is a true work of ancient Asian art. Hand painted and authentically glazed porcelain it illustrates a magnificent symbol and pure representation of the Qing Dynasty. Dating back to the early 14th century blue and white pottery was one of China's biggest imports. This particular Chinese porcelain planter comes brilliantly decorated with painted blue floral designs with butterflies on the white background. The mystique and craftsmanship illustrated is truly one of a kind. The inside rim of the porcelain planter is also hand painted with brush strokes of a leaf or budding floral pattern, A unique feature of this Chinese porcelain planter are the butterflies perching on the tree. These butterflies represent good luck. The Chinese believe that the white butterfly is the carrier of souls to heaven. After someone passes and a white butterfly is seen, they know their loved one is safe and at eternal peace.
The butterfly is usually associated with joy and weddings, but as its name (hudie) is a pun for "age seventy to eighty," it is also a symbol for longevity.
As a whole, the blue and white planter is a symbol of beauty and authority. It would serve well on the ground or on a pedestal stand.
